Cuckoo’s Nest Charity
Where based: They have two adjacent shops on Peel St in Marsden
Managed by: The Cuckoo’s Nest committee
Key information
The Cuckoo’s Nest Charity is a small charity with two adjacent shops in the village, both run by teams of volunteers. They opened in June 2001.
It is through the sale of donated items in these shops that the charity raises funds which are then primarily allocated through biannual grants in the spring and autumn. Applications are encouraged by non-profit local groups who work for the benefit of Marsden and its residents, so the whole operation is cyclical. Local people donate and volunteer and the village then benefits from the outcomes of the projects sponsored. Annual donations are also given to nominated charities.
So far, the Cuckoo’s Nest Charity has given over £700,000 to community projects and events, including being a major sponsor of this Directory.
Pictures included are of the two ‘Festive Nights’ late night shopping events run by the Marsden Business Forum in 2024, supported by a Cuckoo’s Nest Charity grant. Marsden’s very own Silver Prize Band kindly played carols around the village both nights.
