Transpennine Route Upgrade – Marsden Station

Key information

As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, we will be upgrading Marsden Station to make it more accessible and improve journey experience.

This includes a new footbridge with lifts, longer platforms, new platform access on all tracks, better passenger facilities and local connections, and additional car parking.

We will also be making other changes in the area, including the reconstruction of bridges to accommodate overhead line equipment to power faster, greener trains.

TRU will work with stakeholders, including the Marsden Blueprint, to create new economic growth and environmental improvements around the former Goods Yard, the Narrow Canal and Marsden Moor Centre.

SMART is Slaithwaite and Marsden Action on Rail Transport - a community campaign group

Their current focus is on ensuring that the Transpennine Route Upgrade delivers tangible improvements in train services at Slaithwaite and Marsden, specifically an increase to two trains per hour throughout the day.

They are looking for both stations to be made fully accessible and for the service pattern on completion to include through trains from Slaithwaite and Marsden to Leeds.

The group also get involved in discussions about the level of disruption taking place during the construction period and how that can be done in such a way as to mitigate the disruption to passengers.
