The 'Snow' Stanza Stone on the Stanza Stones Poetry Trail.

Stanza Stones Poetry Trail

Where based: Marsden Station to Ilkley Station over the moors

Lead contact: Tom Lonsdale

Key information

Marsden is the departure point for this renowned long distance walking trail, which can be tackled free all at once or in easy chunks suitable for all ages.

Before his appointment as Poet Laureate, Marsden-born Simon Armitage composed six short poems about water in the landscape, to celebrate the Cultural Olympiad of 2012. Together with local Landscape Architect, Tom Lonsdale, they selected locations at intervals along the watershed for Pip Hall to carve the words.

The first stone, SNOW, is tucked inside the atmospheric quarry on Pule Hill, very close to the village. Tom also designed the nearby stone seat.
